Dehumidification

Controlling indoor humidity levels is the 1st step in creating a healthy home microbiome. Water vapors are one of the most ignored areas of water damage. Most people think water damage only comes from roof leaks, leaky pipes or floods, and that humidity is only something that only happens in basements or crawlspaces. This couldn’t be further from the truth.

What humidity level is good?

Sustaining a level between 40% to 50% relative humidity in your home is best for avoiding water vapor damage, health risks and irritants. It’s high enough that you won’t have chapped lips or constant nose bleeds, and it’s not too damp for comfort, condensation formation, or heat consumption issues. Dehumidifiers should be a primary investment once the foundation of home health is set or restored. PJ & Peter commonly speak their professional opinions that dehumidification should come BEFORE filtration (HVAC is a different story) and that the focus should be on preventing moisture, not microbes. Statistically, almost every homeowner in the United States should own at least one dehumidifier and if you are unsure, check your humidity levels with a hygrometer. The relative humidity is generally pretty high across the board in the U.S. with an exception of a few states under 55% in the midwest.

Why we love coffee enemas
