The Gold Mycotoxin Panel

Mycotoxins are toxic chemical byproducts released by certain molds under stress. They don’t float freely, they attach to spores, fragments, and dust from whatever the mold was breaking down. These particles settle into your home’s dust and get inhaled day after day.

That’s why settled dust tells the real story. It’s a living archive of what’s been circulating, and what your body has likely been exposed to, for weeks, months, or even years.

The Gold Mycotoxin Panel detects these toxins directly from your home’s dust, helping us evaluate your health risk and determine how aggressive your decontamination strategy needs to be.

It’s not just about what’s growing. It’s about what’s lingering.

If you’ve had water damage, failed remediation, or lingering symptoms, this test reveals what inspections often miss.

The Gold Mycotoxin Panel quantifies & detect 12 mycotoxin groups that are frequently associated with water damage & mold illness: Trichothecenes, Satratoxin G & H, Stachybotrylactam, Chaetoglobosin, Sterigmatocystin, Aflatoxins, Alternariol, Citrinin, Mycophenolic Acid, Ochratoxin A & Zearalenone.

The Gold Mycotoxin Panel is designed to evaluate:

  • WHAT type(s) of the 12 mycotoxin groups are present

  • HOW MANY mycotoxins are detected in the dust sample you submit

This panel does not tell us where a problem is located in the home, but it does help us determine:

  • Your level of environmental exposure

  • How intense your decontamination efforts may need to be

Each Gold Mycotoxin Kit comes with:

  • 1 sterile Myco-wipe™

  • 1 pair of PPE Gloves

  • 1 Completed Chain of Custody Form

  • PJ & Peter’s Customized Instructions

  • 1 Pre-addressed Envelope to the Lab

We recommend clients purchase their own expedited shipping back to the lab so it can be tracked and will arrive faster. We suggest using UPS or Fed EX. (USPS has been known to deliver improperly.)

FAQ

  • This test is not designed to pinpoint specific sources in your home.

Mycotoxin testing is best used as a screening and assessment tool to understand overall contamination and exposure patterns, not as a stand-alone method for locating the exact source of a problem. While it may sometimes show higher concentrations in certain areas, we do not recommend using this test on your own to try to “hunt for sources.”

In some cases, clients choose to sample broader zones of a home (for example, basement vs. main living area vs. upper floor) to look at general distribution. However, this approach can become expensive quickly and still does not reliably identify a specific source.

For source identification, testing should be interpreted alongside building history, moisture data, inspection findings, and professional guidance. If your goal is to locate or narrow down potential sources, we strongly recommend onboarding with us first so we can help you choose the most appropriate strategy and avoid unnecessary testing.

  • One test is our recommendation if your goal is to determine if your home has mycotoxins.

This is especially helpful if you already know you have a mold issue and you are looking to get some additional data to help you in your decision making process with regards to decontamination and sorting contaminated contents/possessions.

*If you haven’t done any testing yet, and you are unsure if you have a mold issue, you may want to consider doing an ERMI Test + Forensic Review with us FIRST, unless we have otherwise advised you differently.

*If you are also planning to test insulation, you will need two tests.

  • Yes, mycotoxin test results are generally straightforward and do not require formal interpretation to read. However, results can become confusing if you’re unfamiliar with typical baselines and how values are commonly assessed in real homes.

This is where working with us during onboarding can be helpful. We place results into context, look at them alongside the home’s history and risk profile, and help you decide what matters and what doesn’t.

We do recommend mycotoxin testing for new home purchases and within our Home Check framework. When results are positive, they’re not something we typically overlook. Context matters.

  • We primarily use the Gold Mycotoxin Panel as a severity and decision-making tool.

    It is commonly used for:

    • New home purchases, as part of risk assessment and Home Check guidance

    • Determining contamination load, especially when symptoms are present

    • Guiding decontamination strategy, including how aggressive cleaning and small particle remediation needs to be (this is within our onboarding and one on one consulting.)

    Results help us determine:

    • Your overall level of environmental exposure

    • Whether decontamination should be light, moderate, or intensive

    • How cautious we need to be with contents, cleaning protocols, and recovery planning
